Japanese Pokémon TCG product is a different release line from the English one, not a translation of it. Sets come out in Japan first, often months ahead of the English equivalent, and they are split differently: where English gets one large expansion, Japan frequently gets two or three smaller ones that are later merged. This category holds the sealed Japanese product we import — booster boxes, displays, high-class packs and special sets.
What is different. Japanese packs usually contain 5 to 11 cards rather than the English 10, and a Japanese booster box holds 20 or 30 packs. Print quality is the reason many collectors prefer them: Japanese cards are cut and centred more consistently and the card stock is noticeably more resistant to bending, which matters if you grade. Pull rates for the top rarities are generally more favourable than in English sets, and the price per pack is usually lower.
What to watch out for. Japanese cards are not legal in English-language tournament play, so if you are building a deck for a European league or event you want the English print instead. Card text is Japanese only, and Japanese card backs differ subtly from English ones, which matters in sanctioned play.
